Meet Gloria, our Explorium and Program Lead. When she's not running, exploring the mountains, or traveling on scuba trips, you can meet her at the Explorium or while facilitating our After School & School Break Programs serving the students of Breckenridge and Upper Blue.
I first discovered my love for experience-based learning as a mentor for college students in my early career as a biogeochemistry researcher at California State University, Monterey Bay. While living in Monterey, California, I began scuba diving and found a similar reward in helping students discover more of the natural world as a teaching assistant for the university's scuba courses.
Following this growing passion, I moved on from research to spend the summer working as a divemaster for Catalina Island Marine Institute’s Summer Sea Camp where I had the privilege of leading teenage students underwater and helping their curiosities about and passions for the environment blossom. It was during that time that I solidified my passion for inspiring young people to care for the natural world by interacting with it in a meaningful way.
Before joining the education team at Mountain Top Explorium, my mission took me up to the San Bernardino mountains, through the Sonoran Desert and down the Lower Colorado River, leading outdoor education programs across myriad environments for children ages 8-18. I am excited now to be working with the youth of Summit County, using my experience and passion to design experience-based education programs that help to spark your children’s inspiration and care for the magical natural world they get to grow up in!
